well, just had to do this after reading bout the impending visit to the world of 2099 via Marvel's upcoming Timestorm mini!
i was a big fan of the original incarnation, as well as followed x-men 2099 from #1-20+, as well as the first arc of Ghost Rider 2099 (really love Chris Bachalo's art over there) was a very fun, although mostly dark universe. i'm not a big Marvelite, but the titles gave me a chance to enjoy the house of ideas without feeling guilty. spidey2099 also featured some of the best visuals from veteran Rick Leonardi.
I haven't read anything from Brian (Ms. Marvel) Reed yet, but I hope he'll do justice to the world of 2099...
gonna scan the first ish when it comes out...but at $3.99...yikes! also, to promote the mini, Marvel's releasing a collected Spidey 2099 vol, from 1-10...very excited bout it...but with a tag price round $30, i'm being a lil cautious. but we'll see.
hope you guys enjoy! pen+ink+painter+photoshop cs3
thanks man. yep, i still go back to some of the backissues i have. you followed it till the end? it kinda got a lil wonky for me, i think by the time the 2099 concept was starting to fizzle out.
excited for the release of the TPB...hope they can do a Showcase sorts of...with black and white pages. that will be just killer!
Yeah i tried to follow it till the end but it did get really crazy was never sure if i got them all. The series wrap up was pretty out there as they tried to keep certain character but get rid of others. But yeah the would be awesome if they did that with that release
I only read the first fewe issues Ghost Rider 2099, but you're damn right about Bachalo's right I hope they'll reprint those too, but I don't have too high hopes (no demand...)
I should really comment on the art too, right?
I like the color composition, with the primary colors reserved for the figure (which were kinda dictated to you, but still). Those twisted buildings and extreme foreshortening really enhance the dynamic of the piece. And I like how you depicted his web-cape-thing by 'etching' it out from the background.
well, don't lose hope. i'm sure there's still some spark of hope left at the end of the tunnel, considering they're revisiting the 2099 universe. and if fan reactions are positive enough, we might see more of the old folks from the future...
and boy, am i praying for GR 2099 to get back on the hog!
and thanks for the very articulate breakdown of the art. always a pleasure getting your comments, man!
