Recently finished a new sample set inspired by Brian Wood's smashingly brilliant Vertigo book, Northlanders. From events that happened in issue 3, The Drovers Lads.

A lil practice also in control since I used thinner, smoother lines here than I usually employ. This was a very fun exercise, the more so because I love the whole Vikings era! Really fun sample set, this one. Let me know what you guys think when you can.

Looks cool. You usually use bolder lines?

How do you ink your pages?

I've been using pens/markers but have been thinking of moving into traditional inking.. any suggestions?

yeah, if you check my earlier works, they pretty much have a broader, more varying brushwork on them. with this, it's more controlled, single weight outline.

i ink depending on what's needed per project. my number 1 tool is a brush, with technical pens (.1,.3,.5) as 2nd tools.

i think it'll be beneficial for you to get yourself acquainted with brush inking. it's a bit challenging, but once you get used to it, you'll find it hard to drop. the resulting work's closer to pro quality with brushes. just give it a shot and see if you feel the process.
